RISKS OF DRINKING ALCOHOL




There are certain risks associated with drinking alcohol:

1. "Pot belly". Heavy alcohol drinking may promote abdominal obesity in men, so called "pot belly".

2. Heartburn. Alcohol contains powerful stimulants of gastric acid secretion and may provoke gastroesophageal reflux and cause heartburn.
3. Blood pressure. Daily beer consumption (approximately 40 g of alcohol) may increase blood pressure.
4. Intoxication & Dehydration. Alcohol is a dehydrating agent and downer that reduces activity of the central nervous system. High amounts of alcohol can turn into dehydration, intoxication, and hangover.
5. Impairment of driving-related skills. Even small amounts of alcohol can have adverse effects on attention and motor skills. Many serious accidents are alcohol related.
6. Vomiting.

7. Blacking out and not remembering what you did while you were drunk.

8. Passing out in an unfamiliar place or a place where your safety could be at risk.

9. Decreased inhibitions resulting in embarrassing and dangerous behaviour.

10. A hangover which includes: nausea, fatigue, upset stomach, headache, sore muscles, "cotton mouth," lack of motivation.

11. Alcohol-related injuries resulting from loss of inhibitions and coordination.

12. Death by nervous system failure, injury and choking (on own vomit).
